E-Delphyn Blood Bank System

This System is a flexible tool for Blood Bank data management, enabling a complete computerization of all their activities (Donors and Patients), allowing users an easy blood component control.

According to international requirements and recommendations (AABB, ISBT), the main features of this Data Management System are the following:

 

COMPREHENSIVE

• It includes all processes carried out by Blood Banks, regardless of their size.

• It contains modules for:

- Donor management.

- Patient management.

- Blood Components Storage management.

• It allows the use of laptops for the following processes:

- Register of donors and donations in external blood collection sites.

- Bedside transfusion checks.

 

EASY TO USE

• Its graphical users interface has been designed for running on client PCs having Windows OS and browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape.

• It offers pull down menus with options for each and every one of the processes carried out by any Blood Bank, making it easily adaptable for each user’s needs. It is intuitive and friendly.

 

FLEXIBLE

• The user has a total control over the configuration deciding, among others, which System options to activate and, based on the legislation of each individual country, how each of these should function.

• It works for large National/Regional Blood Transfusion Centres as well as for small Hospital Blood Banks.

 

SECURITY

• Access to all options is controlled by personal encrypted passwords.

• Up to three different access levels are available for each option.

• All actions taken by users are recorded, including delete and modify.

• It includes Validation rules for donations and Compatibility rules for transfusions. All these rules can be set up by the own user.

• Labels for blood components can be printed:

- When blood is taken from the donor (Phlebotomy).

- When donation is validated based on validation rules.

- When bags of blood are reserved for patients using compatibility tests.

- When bags required for transfusion of specific patients are issued.

• Bar code and magnetic card readers can be used for handling.

 

TRACEABILITY

• It provides immediate access to full background information regarding:

- Each blood component, whether or not it is currently in Storage.

- Each donor, including all donation test results and obtained components.

- Each patient, including all blood test results and possible adverse transfusional reactions (Haemovigilance). Issue conditions to be taken with each patient.

 

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

• It is based on a Web/Java application server using a N-tiers architecture.

• It has been developed using Java code J2EE application.

• The client tier provides the graphical users interface (GUI) running on client PCs having Windows OS and browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape with Java support.

• The communication between the client and the Server is based on HTTP(S)/XML with encryption.

• The application tier is scalable with fail-over or load balancing capabilities.

• The application runs on Servers with any Operating System, specially with Unix based Operating Systems such as SUN Solaris, IBM AIX or Linux.

• The database tier connects to the application tier using technology incorporated in J2EE standard for database management.

• The database is configured for redundancy and fail-over.

• It can be fully integrated with information systems already installed in each Centre (HIS and LIS).

• Capable of on-line connections with multiple analyzers, regardless of their brand or model.
